Frequently Asked Questions
My child seemed very nervous and didn?t seem to act his usual self during the first day of class, does this mean he doesn?t like Kindermusik?
No. All children are different. They all have different ways of processing situations and each child has their own set of ways that aid in their own learning process. Usually on the first day of class everything is very new to your child. It takes time to get used to the teacher, music, other children in class, props, instruments and everything else that goes on in class all at once. That is why in Kindermusik we like repetition and routine to ease your child?s mind.
We came to the first day of class and my daughter didn?t like the music, I guess she doesn?t like music.
This is common among many children, however as adults we are no different. Adults tend to listen to the same music collection they have already acquired over the years. Sometimes its hard to listen to something new, therefore we have to listen to the new music again and again before we begin to enjoy and appreciate. And the song we didn?t seem to like in the beginning becomes the song we listen to over and over again, just like our children.
Is my son leaning anything from Kindermusik? He just runs around the room the entire class time.
Many times its hard to understand our children?s learning process. It is not uncommon for children to run around the room, hide under the chair or sit back and watch during a Kindermusik class. All these actions that seem to us like regression are ways the children aid themselves in learning. Again, we have to look at ourselves. Sometimes we have to doodle when we are listening to a lecture. Why? Because it helps us to focus. Others have to shake their knee, click their pen, play with silly putty, talk, observe, take notes, or close their eyes. All these actions help us to focus so we can take in whatever we are learning. That is why a child may need to run in order to focus. That energy needs to be used in a positively and what better way than to run and sing
As a parent, I get bored in class sometimes. Does that mean my child is bored too?
No. You have to consider the age difference between you and your child. They are 2, so turning the lights on and off for a hour is a blast They are 6 months old, so taking a break from playing peek-a-boo for the last half and hour may make them cry. They are 5, so showing you the same action you may think is silly, they could do until they drop and fall asleep. You didn?t think your 7 year old could talk as much as they do but they never get bored. We have to understand that children are growing into these new experiences which we have grown out of in a sense.
My child does every seem to know what is going on in class. I notice other children know the activities and enjoy doing them. Is the teacher not spending enough time with my son in class?
In class the teacher will give each child personal attention giving the parent the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Class is a way to consummate and reestablish what you have been doing at home. That is why we provide home materials for you and your child. The home is where the child is comfortable and that is where he experiences the most learning. The home CD is a fun way for the child to learn, therefore when he arrives at class he knows what we are doing and is even able to give insight and input to the class.
Well, if I already have the home materials, what?s the point of coming to class?
Even though the child learns the most in the home, class is a way for you to gain more ideas and experiences, as well as for your child. Class is forming a group of people who share and will share common attributes, characteristics and qualities. Because we want to develop the whole brain of your child, we want to establish good social interaction with other people and children other than family. Class and the home is the entire Kindermusik experience
